Sweet dreams

Bernard Mulhern was a unique and special person . . . it really is hard to believe he's no longer with us but we have nothing but great memories of him that usually involved love, laughter and joy . . . like his beloved dad Ben, he grew up with an amazingly positive attitude to life . . . and there's little doubt that he enjoyed it to the full . . . his trips to Ireland were something he looked forward to when his mum Pauline would make her annual visit home to see her mum, sisters and brothers and would base herself and the family in Sarsfield Park . . . the two boys were very popular figures with the locals but even more popular with their cousins who couldn't get enough of them . . . I loved to bring Simon and Bernard fishing on the Royal Canal in Leixlip and we spent many sultry summer evenings chewing the fat and having the craic . . . Bernard was easily wound up and myself and Simon would often tell him that he needed to keep quite as the Irish fish were not used to an English accent . . . it was hilarious to see his reaction when he got home and told his mum and the penny would drop . . . we were devastated when we heard the news about Bernard's passing . . . like Simon, he was my younger brother and I loved him to bits . . . it's not just those illusive fish in the Royal Canal who will miss that beautiful English accent.
